How the 2013 Audi R8 came about

Just as Audi’s 2013 R8 has broken cover at this year’s Moscow Motor Show, this video showing us exactly what it took to create the newly refreshed supercar has been released onto the internetwork, with contributions from those in the know at Audi AG and quattro GmbH.

720 hp BMW M3 Coupe by G-Power

Aresing-based tuning specialist G-Power has released these images of a customer’s E92 BMW M3 Coupe, with a nice surprise beneath its hood.

The owner wanted a substantial increase in power, so opted for the Tornado RS conversion, which sees the 4.0-litre V8 taken apart and reconstructed with a new crankshaft and Mahle pistons, taking its displacement up from 4.0 to 4.6-litres.

The company’s SK III ASA T1-723 supercharger kit was then added, along with a carbon fibre air box and titanium exhaust system, resulting in a monumental 537 kW (720 hp). Those changes produce a 0-100 km/h time of just 3.7 seconds and a new top speed of 330 km/h (205.5 mph). Other upgrades include a Clubsport adjustable coilover kit and G-Power’s 20-inch Silverstone Diamond alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin rubber.

Visually, the M3 Coupe wears a lower front spoiler, and a replacement bonnet and boot lid constructed from carbon fibre.

2012 Motor Trend drag race – unplugged

Motor Trend has done the decent thing and removed all traces of music from its ‘World’s Greatest Drag Race 2’ footage, allowing us all to drink in those glorious symphonies. As part of the magazine’s search for this year’s best driver’s car, all the machines were lined up at Orange County’s former Marine base, El Toro, for a little action. You think the C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series sounds good – then you hear the Aventador.

Porsche Cayenne CLR 558 GT by Lumma Design

Winterlingen-based styling specialist Lumma Design has updated its CLR 558 GT by Lumma Design for the (958) Porsche Cayenne.

Constructed from PUR-RIM, the aero package includes an aggressive front fascia with air large intakes, new grilles, LED daytime running lights and quad fog lamps, flared wheel arch extensions, side skirts and a vented rear bumper with integrated diffuser. There’s also a raised wing which attaches to the factory spoiler and a muscular-looking, ventilated hood.

Other upgrades consist of an electronic suspension lowering module, a wide choice of alloy wheels, including these 22-inch Racing CLR 22 items and complete interior makeovers in leather and Alcantara. The company can also provide engine tuning options for all models of Cayenne and recommends its stainless steel exhaust system with those unsubtle tailpipes.

Chris Harris drives the AMG Hammer

This new episode of DRIVE sees Chris Harris taking a trip around the fascinating AMG premises at Affalterbach before getting behind the wheels of a factory-owned Hammer. Beneath the hood of this wide-bodied 1986 W124 Coupe sits a 6.0-litre V8 tuned by AMG to producing 284 kW (381 hp). Eighties-tastic.

Skoda Yeti Sochi

In acknowledgement of the 2014 Winter Olympics, Skoda has released details of this special edition Yeti Sochi, named as a reference to the host venue.

Available exclusively for the Russian market, the Yeti Sochi is based on the SE trim level and is finished in Candy White with 17-inch ‘Matterhorn’ alloys in black and chrome and a blue/grey cloth interior. Official Olympic decals feature on the fenders, sill trim plates and seat tabs.

Drive comes courtesy of a 112 kW (150 hp) 1.8 TSI petrol engine, which powers all four wheels via a six-speed double-clutch transmission.

Due to make its début at the Moscow International Automobile Salon (August 29 to September 9), with production beginning in 2013. If you’re feeling left out, you can always just buy a Yeti Urban and throw some decals on the fenders…
