Škoda Auto is presenting the new Fabia vRS hatch and estate at the Geneva Motor Show, where it will join the sports-tuned Octavia vRS. Both Fabia vRS versions are indeed impressive: for the first time ever, Škoda Auto is using a double-supercharged, four-cylinder petrol engine providing 180bhp, in an engine of just 1.4 litres.

The Škoda Octavia is going to get a new engine – the existing line of petrol units will be extended with the turbocharged four-cylinder 1.2 TSI/77 kW with direct injection that the manufacturer has been using in the Yeti for some time. With its performance and maximum torque of 175 Nm at 1,550 – 4,100 revs/min-1, this extremely responsive new engine is an ideal solution for both city and motorway driving. Optionally, the unit can be combined with a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed automatic DSG.

Škoda vehicles have been successful at the Monte Carlo Rally that is part of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) series, as all of the three crews of the Mladá Boleslav factory team managed to get among the first five in the ranking – Finland’s Juho Hänninen came second, Nicolas Vouilloz third and Jan Kopecký fifth.
