Sean Edwards dies following crash in Australia

Sean Edwards
Sean Edwards, the Porsche Carrera Cup and Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup driver, has been killed in a tragic accident today during a private driving training session at Australia’s Queensland Raceway.

The 26-year-old was in the passenger seat as an instructor when the Porsche 996 GT3 left the track and hit a tyre wall. The son of ex-Formula One driver Guy Edwards, Sean was a supremely bright talent who became champion in the FIA GT3 European Championship and has competed in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup since 2008, and in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland since 2010.

Sean won the Nurburgring 24 Hours earlier this year and is currently leading the Supercup series by 18 points after victories at Barcelona, Monaco and the Hungaroring, meaning he could still win the title posthumously.

We’ve added one of our very favourite Sean Edwards videos below from on board his 997 GT3 Cup car during a very wet Porsche Carrera World Cup race at the Nurburgring.

Our deepest condolences go out to Sean’s family and friends at this truly horrendous time.
