BMW has announced details of the Concept Active Tourer Outdoor ahead of its debut at the OutDoor Friedrichshafen trade fair later this month.
With an exterior length of 4,350 mm, it’s virtually identical to the F20 1 Series, but its width of 1,833 mm and height of 1,576 mm are more akin to the dimensions of the E84 X1.
As the name suggests, this Gold Race Orange recreational variant differs from the regular CAT thanks to the addition of hard-wearing interior materials, such as MoonWhite and MoonRock Grey leather, a studded plastic load floor, and an integrated carrier system for two bicycles that folds back into the side panels when not in use. The Outdoors’s eight-inch display panel also utilizes the ConnectedDrive mobility services for a new “Heart of the Alps” route guide, which was developed jointly by BMW and the Austrian Tyrol tourist board.
Beneath the Concept’s skin lies the latest BMW eDrive system; a combination of 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder unit along with a lithium-ion-powered electric motor. With a total output of 140 kW (187 hp) and 200 Nm driving the front wheels, the Concept Active Tourer Outdoor can hit 100 km/h in under 8 seconds and reach a top speed of 200 km/h. Emissions of under 60 g/km of CO2 are achievable with a consumption figure of just 2.5 litres every 100 kilometres equally impressive, while a range of 20 to 30 kilometres (12 – 19 miles) in electric mode alone is also possible.
