New BMW Mini Almost Here

Judging by these high speed shots, the new Mini is just about ready for the road.

Due out within the next six months, the new Mini hasn’t been radically altered in any way. The main difference is a slightly longer body, new style headlights fitted further up the wings and a raised bonnet height (brought about by new Pedestrian safety rules).

The front bumper receives a wide mouth aperture, which serves as an inlet to feed cool air to the engine. The rear of the car also receives a restyled bumper and updated lights.

Powerplants for the new Mini were created jointly with Peugeot. Once again, a 1.6L petrol version will be powering the One, Cooper and Cooper S range. The previous Toyota diesel engine has been ditched in favour of an all new unit.

The hot model of the bunch, will benefit from a turbo-charger, replacing the super-charger of its predecessor. This should give 200+ bhp and is sure to be a target for the many tuners. BMW have wisely upgraded the traction control accordingly.

Inside, owners will appreciate the new switchgear, sat-nav system and most of all… The starter button!
