BMW’s new technique, known as IPP (Integrated Paint Process) has been introduced to the production line at Oxfords Mini plant.
The efficient new system will cut energy costs and emmissions during the paint process as well as meeting BMWs’ strict quality standards.
Their new method removes the need for a separate primer coat by combining it with one of the base coats, with the primer being incorporated within the first layer of the two base coats. As with the previous method, a clear coat is applied at the last stage.
Head of painted body technology at BMW, Gerhard Brückom explained “IPP technology has been subjected to extensive analysis and testing throughout its development. We know that it fully conforms to the high optical and functional quality standards of our products. Its long-term quality is guaranteed.”
