  • Underground Racing Audi R8 GT

Underground Racing has revealed its latest project at this year’s SEMA show; an insanely-powered twin-turbocharged Audi R8 GT.

Already developing 412 kW (560 hp) from its 5.2-litre V10 engine, Underground Racing offers various options, beginning with its Stage 1 kit which releases 522 kW (700 hp) on pump gas and 746 kW (1,000 hp) on race fuel, while the Stage 2 version produces 634 kW (850 hp) and 895 kW (1,200 hp).

Things get really serious with the Stage 3 and Race Version kits. Both produce 746 kW (1,000 hp) if fed 93 octane, but when racing fuel is introduced the Stage 3 kit churns out 895 kW (1,200 hp) and the Race Version a maniacal 1,119 kW (1,500 hp).

This particular car, owned by regular customer Ray, features such goodies as race-spec cylinder heads, a billet race differential, quick shift and a MoTeC boost-by-gear system.

Visually, the R8 wears a matte body wrap and 19-inch HRE Carbon Series CF43 wheels wrapped in Nitto Invo tyres.

  • ABT Sportsline QS5

Kempten’s ABT Sportsline has revealed its QS5 program for the facelifted Audi Q5.

The aero package includes a restyled front fascia and radiator grille section with vertical bars, subtle wheel arch extensions, side skirts, a large roof spoiler and rear bumper apron with apertures for the double-twin tailpipes. A choice of replacement alloy wheels are available in sizes from 20 to 22-inches including the DR items pictured, while the sports spring kit helps to bring the Q5 30 mm closer to the road.

Performance upgrades see output from the 2.0-litre turbodiesel rise from 130 kW (177 hp) and 380 Nm of torque up to 151 kW (205 hp) and 420 Nm, while the brawnier 3.0 TDI jumps from 176 kW (245 hp) and 580 Nm to 207 kW (282 hp) and 630 Nm – not far off the SQ5 TDI‘s figures.

  • Porsche 961 name set for a comeback

Porsche CEO Matthias Muller has confirmed that the company is working on a new mid-engined sports car with a CFRP monocoque chassis to rival the Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren 12C.

Designed to sit between the 911 GT2 and Porsche’s forthcoming 918 Spyder, the new model is rumoured to wear the 961 name – last seen on the Group B sports prototype 959-based racecar and borrow the 918’s 4.6-litre V8 engine. Developing 425 kW (570 hp), a 0-100 km/h time in the three second bracket would be entirely realistic.

Pricing is expected to be around the £250,000 mark when it eventually sees production.

  • Porsche switching development from 997 to 991 GT3 RSR

Porsche Motorsport has announced that the 997 GT3 RSR has reached the end of its product cycle, with development work being devoted to the 991-based racecar starting next year, ahead of its grid début in 2014.

Porsche will continue to provide customer teams with full at-the-track engineering and components support throughout the 2013 season, but confirmed that the relationship with its super-successful U.S. development partner, Flying Lizard Motorsports, has been terminated.

“Flying Lizard Motorsports has assisted in testing everything from new engines and transmissions to the latest aero package we introduced earlier this year – all to improve the car for everyone. We thank Seth and his team for that service, and hope their racing plans going forward continue to include Porsche,” said PMNA President, Jens Walther.
