Mercedes Planning Audi R8 Killer

Rumours are building of a Mercedes supercar to rival the forthcoming R8 from Audi.
German publication Auto Motor und Sport have released this rendering of what they think a possible Audi R8 killer will look like.
The article speculates that Mercedes could unveil the new mid-engined model sometime around 2010, with the entire production taking place at its AMG plant.
If we were Mercedes and wanted to build something to rival a Lamborghini based supercar, we’d ask McLaren to build it.

holy god this car sucks. I have an R8 and it is SOOOOOOOO nice. All mercedes could do is mess it up by making sure you need to take in to get “fixed” every month and jack up the price about 50k (R8 starts at about $105,000… )
In all honesty, I would rather drive a prius.

Just remeber that Mercedes Benz create’s ridiculous power output engines….Can they outperform audi in terms of power yes…..Now the styling is something they need to work on…..I’d rather the Mercedes Benz Clk GTR raw styling anytime…..than this boring design I’m looking at…..

merc is taking a chance calling it the R8 killer, but 2010 is a long way ahead. Audi move fast and will probably come out with something better than its R8 by then so good luck to merc.

I work for Merc as well and i havn’t heard or seen anything like this. Read the original comments; “rumour”, “rendering” & “possible”. It’s just someones idea of a fantasy car. Having said that, it does look superb and if Merc can get Brabus to rinse over 1,000nm torque out of the current SL’s powerplant, then i’m sure they can wipe the Volkswagen R8, sorry i mean Audi :-), off the road.

obvisouly, this is a photoshop OF an R8. it has the exact same shape, and u can tell that the detail on te lights and things added are poor. looks alright i guess, but mercedes would make it look way better

I have always been a huge fan of mercedes and I think by knowing the cars and people working for them that they can make a fuge success of this car. They have all the right requirements to make it: it looks fantastic, its specs is quite brilliant and to top it all its got the right kind of support from all mercedes fans.

this mercedes looks horrible. This is the result of one car company trying to copy another. I’m not even an audi fan but I can say I would take the r8 any day over this ugly mercedes. Mercedes is known for copying cars. The ugly S class interior is an exact copy of the BMW 7-series interior. If u want a real car buy the 2008 BMW M3

I’m not going to say that this car design is ugly because it has the exact same shape as an infinity G coupe and I think that they’re sexy but supercar? I think not! Anyways all of this talk about copying, well who doesn’t copy. All supercars have the same features, don’t they? Well, all but porsche and lambo do. If you want exotic go lambo if you want practical screw mercedes go BMW

To the idiot “Me” that works at MB, remember the Audi R8 was first, so YOU are just following. And Audi will launch in 2009 (if you people at SMART haven’t heard), a V10 5.2L killing machine that will wipe your SMART MB off the track. If it wasnt’ for your cheap Ventos, and other poor excuses of cars to increase your volume numbers, Audi would be already be killing you in Europe. Oh yea, they already are. Check your sales numbers in GB for example, and go drive your SMART or your Chrysler.

This car looks like it’s trying too hard to be something it’s not. I love the R8 and I would not want this car compared to the Audi. It looks kinda goofy anyway and I think the Audi R8 would kick this Mercedes in the ass dude!
