Porsche aren’t giving any secrets away, but they’ve recently filed patent applications for a seven speed double-clutch gearbox.
The new transmission will replace the outgoing five speed tiptronic box and will see use in their 997, Boxster and Cayman model range.
The system was originally created for the 997 Turbo, but development took longer than expected, meaning it won’t be seen until the facelifted 997 range are debuted at next years Frankfurt Motor Show.
Wolfgang Durheimer, Porsche’s head of R&D, was obviously upbeat about the new seven speed system, stating “It will take us to the next performance plane, particularly in terms of acceleration.”
Anymore gears and it’ll be a Tour De France bike…
