Volkswagen has announced that its funky T-Roc crossover will go into production later this year.
Just like the similarly-sized Tiguan, the T-Roc, Volkswagen’s fourth SUV, is based on the company’s MQB platform, which stands for Modulare Querbaukasten – or Modular Transverse Matrix, but unlike its sibling, there’s a coupe-like sloping roofline and tailgate. It’s also sits 81 mm lower and is 252mm shorter. An imposing wide radiator grille frames integrated dual headlights while LED daytime running lights sit within the bumper matching LED lighting clusters at the rear.
A first for a Volkswagen model is the option of two-tone paintwork with visually contrasting roof section, A-pillars and mirror casings), while dark plastic trim encases the T-Troc’s bumpers, wheel arches and side sills protecting the paintwork from prams while you’re dropping the kids off at school.
Moving inside the five-seater there’s 445 litres of luggage space increasing to an impressive 1,290 litres once the backrests of the rear seats have been folded down. Basic equipment includes air-conditioning, Lane Assist, Front Assist area monitoring with City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring. Owners can add an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well as the more powerful BeatsAudio upgrade.
Three TSI petrol and three TDI diesels engines will be available when the T-Roc launches in November, with the option of a six-speed manual or 7-speed dual clutch DSG gearbox and front-wheel or 4Motion all-wheel drive. Volkswagen’s order book will open in October with pricing starting around the €20,000 mark.
