  • Opel’s Adam hit by poor sales

    Opel Adam 1.4 LPG ecoFLEX
Following an initial positive reaction, Opel has seen a dramatic slump in sales of the Adam since its release at the beginning of the year.

The company had invested €8 million in its Eisenach plant in order to carry out the two-tone painting process on the baby citycar, and was even running the production line seven days a week, but not anymore. Just 41,000 units were sold from January to July, with August seeing a measly 1,226 departing from dealership forecourts. In response, the factory will only be producing Adams for three weeks in every month.

As much as we like the Adam, we’ve always thought that the base price of €11,500 was probably not low enough to convince Fiat 500 owners to make the switch, while models such as Volkswagen’s up! can be had for less than €10,000.

  • Volkswagen’s Andreas Mikkelsen releases documentary

    Andreas Mikkelsen
Followers of Andreas Mikkelsen will know that this documentary was about to be released, and here it is.

Coming from a wealthy background, Mikkelsen clearly acknowledges that his privileged position allowed him more opportunities in his career, but the talent was there from the start. Having competed in slalom and giant slalom, he was a member of the national juniors’ alpine skiing team, before moving to motorcross in 2003 and 2004, he also represented his country.

By the age of seventeen he was competing in rallies in the United Kingdom, piloting a Ford Focus RS WRC, before making his World Rally Championship debut in 2006. Now strongly associated with Volkswagen Motorsport after switching from a Skoda Fabia S2000 – which gave him two IRC titles – to the new Polo R WRC, the 24-year-old Norwegian says he wants a WRC drivers’ title under his belt by the end of 2015.
