  • Audi dropping the A2

According to reports, Audi’s quirky A2 Concept will not make be making it to the production line.

Originally seen as a direct competitor to BMW’s i3, the 1,150 kg electric A2 uses a floor-mounted lithium-ion battery pack to feed its motor, which sends a maximum output of 85 kW (116 hp) and 70 Nm and to the front wheels. On the road, that translates to a 150 km/h top speed and 200 kilometre range.

According to Autocar magazine, Audi sources confirmed that “lessons learnt from the new A2 project” would benefit future vehicles by the Ingolstadt giant, but that it had no plans for a mass-produced aluminium-framed model.

On paper, the cards are stacked in the American’s favour, with the Silverado packing a Duramax V8 that develops 272 kW (365 hp) and 894 Nm of torque, while the Touareg makes use of a V10 TDI producing 231 kW (310 hp) and 748 Nm.

It’s time for the German to teach this Duke of Hazzard that power without traction is as pointless as handcuffs without duck tape.
