Audi A8 To Get R10’s V12 TDI
Posted 13th September, 2006 in Uncategorized | 3 Comments
Audi’s A8 may get the V12 TDI powerplant from the Audi R10, which won this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The awesome 5.5L unit churns out 550hp, but won’t be a lightweight. Diesel engines normally require a hefty cast iron block which means over 200kg (fatty). Still, don’t be surprised to see the top range A8 with a V12 turbo-diesel, there may possibly be an S8 performance variant too. Smoke-tastic!

The V10 engine had become an iconic part of engine history. Same thing as the V12 is slowly rising towards popularity. The new V12 TDI engine developed by Volkswagen is dubbed as the world’s most powerful diesel engine. Lucky Audi, its Q7 had the first taste of it.
