BMW will be offering an iDrive type interface on their second generation Mini.
The software will be accessed using a small joystick located between the handbrake and gearstick.
As with the standard iDrive interface found on current BMW models, the Mini system will also feature voice control. No further details are available at this time, unusually BMW failed to mention the system when announcing the 2007 Mini last month.
This seems to take away the spirit of what the ‘Mini’ name means. It was designed to be a simple, fun car, but now just seems to be getting loaded up with technology.

these i-drive systems, and MMI from audi, will be the death of cars…
after the car goes out of warranty, if these systems have issues, which they frequently do, they will be uneconomical to repair, but disable a lot of operations in the car.
they are flashy, and cool to use, and good to show your pals…however, they have too many glitches.
all looks good, but as usual, i am sceptical!
sorry.
