Volkswagen’s concept SUV has been given the unusual name of Tiguan.

350,000 readers of Auto Bild voted on a label for the baby Volkswagen SUV, with the majority of them choosing Tiguan, a name derived from a combination of the words “tiger” and “iguana.”

Volkswagen chief, Wolfgang Bernhard, commented, “This is demonstrative of how Volkswagen is opening up. We made a clear appeal to the market – potential buyers could help choose the name Tiguan. The positive reaction shows that this is the right approach.”

Expect to see a definitive production version at the Frankfurt motor show in September 2007.

Cool looking car, shame about the name.
