Volkswagen has announced details of the new limited edition Beetle GSR ahead of its début at the Chicago Auto Show (February 7 – 18).
Sharing the same colour scheme as its 1303 S predecessor with the same name from forty years ago, the GSR (Gelb/Schwarz Racer or Yellow/Black Racer) features a yellow body with black hood, roof, mirrors and boot lid, along with side stripes depicting the model’s name. Customers can also order a Platinum Grey and Black body finish as an option. R-Line bumpers are fitted as standard, while the 19-inch Tornado alloy wheels wear 235/40 tyres.
Moving inside the cabin, occupants get fabric R-Line sports seats with yellow stitching (US version in black leather), the R-Line dashboard panel, uniquely-numbered badging (1 to 3,500), a leather-trimmed steering wheel and handbrake lever, and black floor mats with yellow embroidery.
Developing 155 kW (208 hp) and 280 Nm of torque from its turbocharged engine, the GSR cracks 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and reaches a 229 km/h (130 mph). A six-speed manual gearbox comes as standard with the six-speed DSG available an option.
Available to order from May, with deliveries starting in the Autumn, pricing in Germany is set at €30,300.
