  • Volkswagen Golf R by Cam Shaft

Cam Shaft, the oddly-named Kempen styling specialist, has revealed its latest project based on the fiesty Volkswagen Golf R.

The Golf was tuned jointly with MTB-vehicle engineering, who applied their Stage 2 program to the 2.0-litre four-cylinder TSI unit. This includes remapped ECU software, platinum spark plugs and a new exhaust system with downpipe and high-flow Sportkat, resulting in an improved output of 242 kW (325 hp) and 430 Nm of torque – up from 199 kW (270 hp) and 350 Nm.

Other upgrades include a H&R suspension kit, Tarox F2000 brake discs with sport pads and a set of O.Z Racing’s Ultraleggera wheels, measuring 8 x 19-inches and wrapped in 235/35 Dunlop rubber. Cam Shaft complete the aesthetics with a camouflage-style Electric Orange body foil.

  • BMW M3 DTM Champion Edition

We all know that BMW seems to have a fetish for creating special versions of its E92 M3, with them appearing on an almost weekly basis. But this one is for a worthy cause.

The company’s return to the DTM championship was nothing short of phenomenal, and this M3 DTM Champion Edition has been created to mark the car’s success, which saw Bruno Spengler secure the drivers’ title, BMW Team Schnitzer take the team honours, and BMW head the manufacturers’ standings.

As with the Canadian driver’s car, the DTM Champion Edition is finished in Frozen Black metallic paintwork, with a BMW M stripe covering the CFRP roof and boot lid, M logos on the fenders and decals in the rear windows. Other features include matte black wheels, the carbon fibre aero kit and dark chrome elements. Moving inside, the sill plates replicate Spengler’s helmet design, while his signature adorns the carbon dashboard panel. Black Novillo leather trim is used extensively, with the steering wheel and handbrake lever covered in Alcantara.

Power comes from the regular 4.0-litre V8 engine, developing 309 kW (414 hp) and 400 Nm of torque, with standard technical equipment including the Competition package, M Driver’s Package, and M DCT Drivelogic. Owners also enjoy heated seating, Park Distance Control and Professional navigation system.

Just 54 examples will be built at a price €99,000, with deliveries beginning in February, but there’s an added incentive for M fans. Lucky owners will get a chance to attend a BMW M Fascination Nordschleife driver training course with the champion, Bruno Spengler, on hand to share his knowledge.

  • 2013 Audi RS 6 surfaces

Audi has released the first details and images of its 2013 RS 6 Avant, and we like what we see.

As with the new RS 4 Avant, the RS 6 features wedge-shaped xenon plus headlights, a large single-frame grille and a fascia dominated by colossal air inlets and honeycomb mesh. Oddly enough, it does not wear the same box-type wheel arches as the RS 4 or the outgoing C6 RS 6 model, with Audi opting instead for flared items to accommodate the car’s wider track. 20-inch alloys come as standard with 22-inchers an option. At the rear, there’s a large roof spoiler, LED taillights and a pair of elliptical tailpipes shrouded by that imposing diffuser.

Sitting in the engine bay we see that the mighty V10 has made way for a tweaked version of the twin-turbocharged 4.0 TFSI V8 currently powering the S8. It sends 412 kW (560 hp) and 700 Nm of torque to all four wheels via an eight-speed tiptronic transmission, allowing an insane 0-100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds and a limited 250 km/h top speed, which can be raised to 280 km/h (174 mph) upon request.

Thanks to a start-stop and cylinder on demand system, coupled with the utilization of lighter materials, resulting in a car that weighs 100 kg less than its predecessor, helping the C7 RS 6 to return an average fuel consumption figure of just 9.8 litres per 100 kilometres, meaning an improvement of 40 percent over the model it replaces.

The RS 6 is the first RS to use adaptive air suspension with controlled damping, but if you require something a little sharper there’s the sport suspension plus option with Dynamic Ride Control which uses springs and adjustable shock absorbers that are all linked to a central valve by a shared oil line for improved body roll cohesion. Helping to bring the Avant to a standstill is a quartet of vented discs, with 390 mm front discs gripped by six-piston calipers, but if you’re thinking about hitting the track we’d go for the 420 mm carbon ceramic versions.

Inside, occupants are treated to black Alcantara and leather-covered RS sport seats, carbon inlays, MMI navigation plus, 10-speaker sound system, cruise control and three-zone automatic air conditioning.

Notable options include a sport differential on the rear axle, LED headlights, a carbon splitter and diffuser, 21-inch alloys and the comfort package, which brings with it a 1,200 watt 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System, head-up display and Bluetooth online car phone – delivering web-based information, such as weather, news, Audi traffic information online and Audi music stream.

  • Mercedes-Benz CL 63 AMG by Unicate

Automobile tuner Unicate has released details of its latest project based on the Mercedes-Benz CL 63 AMG

Visually, the Berlin-based company has kept things subtle with the addition of an MEC Design clear-coated carbon fibre diffuser and three-piece trunk spoiler. The 21-inch AMG alloy wheels have been retained, but spaced out a little, while the drop ride height is achieved thanks to MEC’s Electronic Lowering System (ELS) module.

Remapped ECU software, combined with a new Apocalypse sound exhaust system, sees output from the biturbo 5.5-litre V8 engine rise from 400 kW (536 hp) to 453 kW (608 hp).

  • ABT Volkswagen Golf VI GTI Last Edition

Kempten’s ABT Sportsline has unveiled a last hurrah to the sixth-generation Volkswagen Golf GTI at Essen before its successor rolls onto the scene.

There are two stages of tuning upgrades to suit the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder; the first, a simple ECU software remap, sees output rise from 155 kW (210 hp) to 191 kW (256 hp), while Stage II requires an uprated turbocharger to release 228 kW (306 hp). A 345 mm front brake kit is also fitted with this option.

Visually, the company’s aero package includes a new front grille, fascia with LED daytime running lights and splitter lip, side skirts, roof spoiler and finned diffuser. There’s also a full exhaust system with diagonal quadruple tailpipes.

ABT also carries a large range of alloy wheels in 18 and 19-inch diameter, including the DR items pictured here, while the 25 mm reduction in ride height is achieved thanks to a sport spring kit.

  • Audi A1 quattro vs Nissan GT-R

This latest video from Autocar sees cuddly Steve Sutcliffe head to the track to find out if Audi’s pocket rocket, the A1 quattro, has the chops to keep pace with the Nissan GT-R.

The A1 is propelled by the company’s delightful 2.0 TFSI engine, which develops 188 kW (256 hp) and 350 Nm of torque, while its Japanese rival uses a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 to produce 404 kW (542 hp) and 632 Nm and features the weight-saving Track Pack.

So, it should be a walk in the park for Godzilla, no?
