During a meeting with Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, the President of Volkswagen do Brasil Thomas Schmall has announced that the new Golf will be produced in Brazil.
€170 million has been spent on the Curitiba plant to take the latest Modular Transverse Toolkit (MQB) to South America, with total investment in Brazil set to rise to €3.4 billion by 2016. Brazil will continue to import Golfs from Germany until production begins. With the new Audi A3 Saloon also set to be built at Volkswagen’s Curitiba factory, total capacity will be raised by twenty percent.
Celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, Volkswagen do Brasil has become Brazil’s largest automaker, with more than 20 million vehicles manufactured, the most successful being the Gol.
