We all know that BMW seems to have a fetish for creating special versions of its E92 M3, with them appearing on an almost weekly basis. But this one is for a worthy cause.
The company’s return to the DTM championship was nothing short of phenomenal, and this M3 DTM Champion Edition has been created to mark the car’s success, which saw Bruno Spengler secure the drivers’ title, BMW Team Schnitzer take the team honours, and BMW head the manufacturers’ standings.
As with the Canadian driver’s car, the DTM Champion Edition is finished in Frozen Black metallic paintwork, with a BMW M stripe covering the CFRP roof and boot lid, M logos on the fenders and decals in the rear windows. Other features include matte black wheels, the carbon fibre aero kit and dark chrome elements. Moving inside, the sill plates replicate Spengler’s helmet design, while his signature adorns the carbon dashboard panel. Black Novillo leather trim is used extensively, with the steering wheel and handbrake lever covered in Alcantara.
Power comes from the regular 4.0-litre V8 engine, developing 309 kW (414 hp) and 400 Nm of torque, with standard technical equipment including the Competition package, M Driver’s Package, and M DCT Drivelogic. Owners also enjoy heated seating, Park Distance Control and Professional navigation system.
Just 54 examples will be built at a price €99,000, with deliveries beginning in February, but there’s an added incentive for M fans. Lucky owners will get a chance to attend a BMW M Fascination Nordschleife driver training course with the champion, Bruno Spengler, on hand to share his knowledge.
