Zanardi drives BMW’s M3 DTM at the Nurburgring

It’s been a great year for Alessandro Zanardi. Not only did he pick up two gold and one silver medal at the Paralympic Games in London, but he also managed to spend some track time with the 2012 DTM champions at the Nurburgring.

The 46-year-old, who lost both legs following a horrific CART crash at Euro Speedway in 2001, was invited to pilot an aptly-coloured gold M3 DTM racecar and completed a total of 32 laps during an event marking the 40th anniversary of BMW M.

“I am overjoyed to have been given the opportunity to drive the BMW M3 DTM today. I would like to thank everyone at BMW who has helped make this special moment possible for me. I felt that the BMW family is still behind me and loves me. They showed that once again today,” said the popular Italian racing driver.
