  • 2013 Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo

Lamborghini has chosen Facebook to reveal images of its 2013-spec Gallardo LP570-4 race car for the Blancpain Super Trofeo series.

Based on the recently revised Gallardo, it uses the road car’s 5.2-litre V10 engine, which transmits 419 kW (570 hp) to all four wheels.

Notable changes include an aerodynamic performance kit with large front spoiler, front dive planes, a large rear wing, colossal diffuser and roll-cage. All cars use 18-inch lightweight competition wheels with Pirelli racing tyres, racing ABS with steel brakes and disabled launch control.

No price has been announced, but expect the package to cost around €200,000. We’ve no doubt this racer will also spawn a street legal version along these lines.

  • 2013 Volkswagen Passat Highline

Volkswagen UK has announced the addition of a Highline model to its current Passat range.

Based on the Passat SE, which it replaces, the Highline features £1,680-worth of equipment for just £500 more than the price of the outgoing SE, with owners enjoying a touchscreen satellite navigation system with integrated Bluetooth music streaming facility, a 2Zone climate control system and front and rear parking sensors. The inclusion of the sensors means that Volkswagen’s impressive Park Assist system can be added as a £195 option.

Available in both a Saloon and Estate guise, the Passat Highline can be specified with a wide range of engines, including a 1.4 TSI developing 90 kW (120 hp) and a 118 kW (158 hp) 1.8 TSI, while diesel fans get a 77 kW (104 hp) 1.6 TDI and a 103 kW (138 hp) 2.0 TDI. OTR prices start at £20,970.

  • Rimac e-M3 breaks numerous world records

Croatia’s Rimac Automobili has announced that its ‘Green Monster’ E30 3 Series has smashed several world acceleration records for an electric vehicle.

The e-M3 Evaluation vehicle had previously been used as a circuit racing and drift vehicle by company founder Mate Rimac, but after destroying its petrol engine he ditched the expired lump in favour of a 24 kWh battery pack and VST-built DC Motor capable of producing 441 kW (600 hp) and 900 Nm of torque, which allows a range of 180 kilometres, a 0-100 km/h time of 3.3 seconds and a 280 km/h (174 mph) top speed.

The vivid E30 was taken to a military runway near Zagreb, measuring two kilometres, to see just what it could do. And it didn’t fail to impress. The 1/8 of a mile time of 7.549 seconds and 11.808s 1/4 mile time have already been recognised as records by the FIA, while the 1/2 km (13.714s), 1 km (23.260s) and 1 mile figure of 35.347s are still pending approval.

  • 2013 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder surfaces

Lamborghini has released initial details and images of its 2013 Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder.

Following on from the recently revealed Gallardo Coupe, the Spyder features the same redesigned fascias, with large triangular and trapezoidal air intakes with black upright struts and more defined side vents. The trapezoidal theme is continued at the rear with a larger air outlet, while the finned diffuser is more aggressive than the outgoing model’s.

The 19-inch black/polished Apollo alloy wheels are also new, while customers opting for the Style Package get high-gloss black paintwork on the underside of the front spoiler, rear trim and front and rear grilles.

As the name suggests, output from the 5.2-litre V10 engine remains at 412 kW (560 hp) and 540 Nm, meaning 100 km/h appears in just 4 seconds and top speed is a delicious 324 km/h (201 mph).

Available to order from November, the rear-wheel drive LP 550-2 Spyder will soon follow, along with the more extreme LP 570-4 Spyder Performante, which can be specified with the Edizione Tecnica upgrade package.

  • DMC Aventador LP900 trailer

Düsseldorf-based tuning specialist DMC has released a trailer promoting its clinically insane Aventador LP900 vehicle.

Modifying what is already an extreme machine, DMC not only adds its carbon fibre Molto Veloce aero package, but also dials up the power, meaning output from the 6.5-litre V12 is raised to a silly 671 kW (900 hp).
