  • speedART SP81-R Porsche Boxster S

Rutesheim tuning specialist speedART has revealed its new SP81-R program for the current Porsche Boxster S.

The aerodynamic package consists of a lower front spoiler, a diffuser section for the rear bumper, an elevated wing which attaches to the factory item and clear coated carbon fibre side sections for the doors and air intakes. Multi-piece LSC (Light Spoke Competition) forged alloy wheels in a 20 or 21-inch diameter complete the aesthetics, while the ride height is reduced thanks to a spring kit or coilover set-up. Moving inside, speedART’s upholstery department refinishes the cabin in a mixture of leather and Alcantara.

For now, the only power upgrade comes via a performance exhaust system, including manifolds, sports catalysts and silencer with twin 100 mm tailpipes and optional damper system, which results in a rise of 15 kW (20 hp) and 20 Nm of torque.

  • Volkswagen Taigun concept heading to Brazil

Volkswagen has announced details of its new Taigun concept which will appear at the forthcoming São Paulo International Motor Show (October 24 – November 4).

Looking like the result of a drunken one night stand between a Tiguan and an up!, the 985 kg Taigun is 3,859 mm in length, 1,728 mm in width, stands 1,570 mm tall and sports a wheelbase of 2,470 mm, meaning its dimensions sit perfectly between those two models too.

Visually, this ‘Seaside Blue’ compact SUV features sculpted flared wheels arches, hidden rear door handles, rugged sections on the sills and arches with added metal underbody protection panels on the bumpers, 17-inch alloy wheels and roof rails with integrated LED lights. Moving inside, the practical cabin features plenty of storage space and air nozzles with integrated dials, allowing occupants to read temperature and blower speed settings, while the cargo capacity increases from 280 to 987 litres once the rear bench seat has been folded down.

Beneath the Taigun’s hood lies Volkswagen’s new 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder petrol engine, which develops 81 kW (109 hp) and 175 Nm of torque, allowing a 0-100 km/h time of 9.2 seconds, a top speed of 186 km/h (115 mph) and a combined fuel consumption figure of just four and one-half litres every 100 kilometres.

“The torque-strong three-cylinder is an ideal engine for such a compact SUV; it is a companion for driving through the urban environment that is as efficient as it is dynamic,” said Volkswagen’s Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg.

  • 1,020 hp Porsche 911 GT2 RS by Wimmer RS

Germany’s Wimmer RS has developed an insane program to suit one of Porsche’s most extreme models, the limited edition 911 GT2 RS.

Retaining the engine’s 3.6-litre displacement, Thorsten Wimmer and his team at the Solingen premises replace the factory turbochargers with a pair of the company’s own uprated units along with a new crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods, sports camshafts, an optimized air intake system and fuel pump.

The powerplant was also fitted with new manifolds, 200 cell sport catalysts and a flap controlled exhaust system. Those changes see output rise from 456 kW (620 hp) and 700 Nm of torque to a much more ferocious 761 kW (1,020 hp) and 1,108 Nm, meaning 60 mph appears in just 3.4 seconds, 120 mph in 8.7s and 180 mph in a mind-bending 15.5s. Top speed is a psychotic 241 mph.

Accompanying components in the conversion include a KW Clubsport coilover suspension kit and set of custom-designed superlight 19-inch alloy wheels.

  • 2012 DTM Hockenheim results

Bruno Spengler has put the icing on top of BMW’s impressive return to the DTM championship by securing the drivers’ title at today’s Hockenheim finale along with the manufacturers’ title as well as topping teams’ standings for Schnitzer.

Making a great start from third on the grid, Spengler eased pass title rival Gary Paffett, before overtaking polesitter Augusto Farfus to take the lead on the first lap. HWA Mercedes driver Paffett then found himself in second place after enjoying a more efficient pitstop than Farfus, meaning he could attack Spengler for the victory. The Briton managed to close the gap to just 1.1 seconds at one point, but had to settle for second place.

Farfus ended the weekend on the third step of the podium, finishing comfortably ahead of Jamie Green’s Mercedes C-Coupe. Green had arrived at the Hockenheimring with an outside chance of taking the title, but after qualifying a disappointing ninth on the grid, he did well to come home in fourth place.

Dirk Werner rounded out the top five for Schnitzer BMW, with Edoardo Mortara some distance behind him, capping off a very mixed year for Audi. David Coulthard retired from the race – and the series – after colliding with Timo Scheider on lap 23.

“Sensational. Awesome. Unbelievable. I still cannot believe what has just happened here. Massive congratulations to Bruno Spengler and BMW Team Schnitzer on winning the Drivers’ and Team titles. This is a big day for everyone at BMW Motorsport,” said an ecstatic Jens Marquardt.

  • Milltek Sport Porsche Panamera Turbo exhaust

Derbyshire tuning specialist Milltek Sport has developed a performance exhaust for Porsche’s Panamera Turbo and Turbo S models.

Constructed from 70 mm diameter non-magnetic stainless steel, the system bolts directly onto the catalysts and deletes the factory centre silencers, optimizing gas flow in the process, while the active valves remain closed at cruising speeds ensuring a decorous inflection. Milltek also offers a more extreme ‘Cup’ version, but points out that it isn’t EC-Approved for sale in Europe.

Both systems are capable of handling cars tuned to 700 hp, and can be specified with a choice of Ink Black, Titanium or mirror polished tailpipe trim finishes.
