  • CLASS VICTORIES FOR AUDI AT THE NURBURGRING 24 HOURS

Audi’s R8 LMS took class honours at this year’s Nürburgring 24-hour race – for the third successive year – after passing a faltering Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, to secure the GT3 car class. If that wasn’t enough, the Audi TT RS finished as the best front-wheel drive vehicle, and an excellent 14th overall, taking the SP 4T class in the development demonstrator.

  • SCIROCCO SUCCESS AT THE ‘RING FOR VOLKSWAGEN

Sadly, things didn’t go according to plan for Volkswagen’s new Golf24 racecar at this year’s 24-Hour Race at the Nürburgring, but it wasn’t all bad news for the Wolfsburg company. The two Scirocco GT24-CNG cars finished first and second in their category, repeating last year’s result. The Dakar-winning trio of Carlos Sainz, Nasser Al-Attiyah and Giniel de Villiers and the touring car veteran Klaus Niedzwiedz also secured 27th place overall.

The Golf24 didn’t enjoy the same success; Edoardo Mortara, in the #135 car, first collided with another vehicle – then hit the barriers head on. Thankfully he was given the all-clear after a check-up at the local hospital. Cars #35 and #235 succumbed to gearbox failure.

  • BUGATTI SELLS 300TH AND FINAL VEYRON 16.4

If you’ve been saving up your pennies, hoping to purchase the concluding Bugatti Veyron 16.4 coupé, we’ve got some bad news for you. Yes, that day has arrived – production of the supercar to end them all – has finally come to an end.

However, if you like the wind in your hair, the Grand Sport model will still be rolling off the line in Molsheim until all 150 units have been manufactured. Even with its roof removed, it still manages to crack 360 km/h (223 mph), making it the world’s fastest convertible.

The 1,001 PS hypercar takes its name from the French racing driver Pierre Veyron, who won the 1939 24 hours of Le Mans while racing for the Bugatti company, in its original guise.
