BMW’s recent announcement of a production-ready hydrogen-powered 7-Series came as a surprise to auto enthusiasts and science buffs alike, with some claiming it to be a “a PR stunt.”
It’s since been argued that BMW’s hydrogen combustion engine is a far cry from a hydrogen fuel cell, which generates power to drive an electric motor. So perhaps they shouldn’t be touting it as the car of the future that we’ve all been waiting for.
Toyota values its hydrogen fuel cell prototypes at $1 million (which would make a production car ‘quite expensive’ at the moment).
