Audi are said to be building a small roadster with motorcycle manufacturer KTM.
Rumours intensified after the chairman of Audi, Professor Dr Martin Winterkorn stated “KTM is very interesting. We will show something at the end of the year”.
Austrian company KTM are reportedly already developing the car, using a Dallara built carbon fibre chassis along the lines of Volkswagen’s EcoRacer.
KTM had initially suggested the idea to Volkswagen, but were pointed towards Audi, because at the time, VW were still developing the (now defunct) GX3 project.
A likely powerplant for the new roadster could be the VW TSI unit, combining turbo and super-charged induction. A sub 6 second time for the 0-60 mph sprint should be realistic.
Hopefully Audi can resist the ‘all wheel drive’ temptation and just give the power to the rear wheels.
