Word has it, that new Mercedes gullwing 300SL could be on our roads by 2010.
Rumours are re-emerging, regarding one of the most eagerly anticipated cars in recent years. It’s believed that the gullwing 300SL will be powered by an enormous 6.3L biturbo V8 powerplant, with at least 600 bhp being delivered through a seven speed double clutch transmission.
With all that power, and Mercedes aiming for a perfect 50:50 weight distrbution, this sounds like it has all the right ingredients to be an absolute ‘bahn stormer.
It’s highly likely that McLaren could be involved, especially after their managing director, Martin Whitmarsh was quoted as saying “The level of interest in McLaren from Mercedes-Benz is higher than it has ever been. There is a clear commitment to be in F1 in the long term and refreshed interest in road car activities. I think it is increasingly likely that there will be a range of sportscars designed in Woking in the future.”
If that’s the case, then this uber-Mercedes looks to be a likely successor to the SLR.
