America is to receive the Smart Car in 2007, to help motorists combat the spiralling costs of fuel.
The Smart will be up against stiff competition from other fuel efficient (mainly Japanese) cars, including the Toyota Yaris and Nissan Versa and will probably be sold through distributors, rather than dedicated Smart dealers.
Mercedes-Benz and their parent company, DaimlerChrysler AG will be hoping to recoup some of the money the Smart has been losing since it first went on sale in 1998.
It’s hoped that the impressive fuel efficiency and unique styling, will prove to be a big hit with younger drivers.
