  • AMS tests the Porsche Cayman R

Germany’s Auto motor und Sport puts the €70,000 Porsche Cayman R through its paces. Powered by a 330 bhp 3.4L flat six unit, the R cracks 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5 seconds, but that time drops to 4.7 s on cars with the optional seven-speed PDK transmission and Sport Chrono package. Top speed with the manual transmission is 282 km/h (175 mph), and 280 km/h (174 mph) with the PDK. (more…)

  • Audi Q5 by Senner Tuning

It seems that there’s no stopping Benno Senner, president of Senner Tuning AG, and his team in Ingelheim when it comes to tweaking Audi models. This time they’ve reworked the Q5 SUV.

Senner focused on the 2.0L TDI model, adding a sports air filter and reworking the engine management system increasing output from 170 hp to 213 hp. The braking system is also upgraded thanks to six-piston Brembo calipers gripping 380 mm discs. A new sports exhaust also helps matters, as does the fitment of a power converter which removes the delay associated with fly-by-wire accelerator systems.

Externally, Senner has kept things relatively subtle with a little colour-coding and a black radiator grille from NSW. The wheels are 10×22 inch Corniche Monza items in a Diamond Black finish.

The interior is finished in two-tone leather, with items such as the speedometer, screen frame and arm pad all receiving a coating of hide with contrasting orange stitching. The centre console gets a carbon trim piece, while the new floor mats bear the Senner logo.

Patrick Simon heads over to the Italian province of South Tyrol for Germany’s Motorvision to see how MTM’s 730 hp RS 6 Clubsport performs in the snow. 100 km/h arrives in 3.6 seconds and 200 km/h can be reached after just 11 seconds. Not bad for a car weighing just under two tons. (more…)

  • Auto Bild: Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupé Vs BMW M3

Wolfgang König sees if the new Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupé has what is takes to tempt BMW drivers out of their M3s for Germany’s Auto Bild. Both cars are powered by naturally aspirated V8 engines and both are limited to 155 mph, but with an official 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds the C 63 AMG is slightly faster than the M3 (4.8 s). That’s not such a massive gap – when you realise that its engine is 2.3L larger… (more…)

  • Volkswagen museum launches ‘Birthday’ exhibition

Volkswagen’s Auto Museum is launching a new exhibition series called “Birthday” which sees special anniversary models on display, beginning with the Golf Cabriolet Classic Line.

Powered by a 1.8L 98 hp four-cylinder engine, the 1991 model marked a milestone for Volkswagen when it became the highest production convertible in the world.

As major fans of the Mk1 Golf, we were pleased when Volkswagen retained the classic shape for its Cabriolet model ten years after the iconic hatchback had ceased production (although it was still produced in other countries – such as South Africa). The Mk1 Cabriolet was built for Volkswagen by the coachbuilder Karmann from 1979, and was succeeded by the Golf Mk3 Cabriolet in 1993, followed by a 3.5 version (Mk3 with a Mk4 face) up until 2002.

It wasn’t until 2011 that Volkswagen brought the Golf Cabriolet back, and has since teased us with GTI and R concepts. We can only hope they reach production… (more…)
