  • Lamborghini releases Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale

Lamborghini is releasing an extreme road version of its racing car from the single-make series, the Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale.

Limited to just 150 units, the Super Trofeo Stradale’s appearance is dominated by that large rear wing – taken directly from the race car. Constructed from carbon fibre, it is fully adjustable and can offer three times the amount of downforce than the regular LP 570-4 item. That wing, along with the carbon mirrors, rear diffuser, air intakes, high gloss black wheels and optional black roof provide a great contrast to the “Rosso Mars” paint finish shown. The body can also be specified in “Grigio Telesto” or “Bianco Monocerus” on request.

Weighing in at 1340 kg – 70 kg down on the regular LP 570-4 – the Super Trofeo Stradale cracks 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.4 seconds and 200 km/h just 10.4 s later, before topping out at 320 Km/h (198 mph).

The inside of the cabin is trimmed in a mixture of black and “Rosso Mars” Alcantara, including the carbon fibre racing seats, door panels and centre console. Components such as the instrument panels frames, handbrake frame, glovebox handle and door handles can be ordered in carbon fibre too.

Other options include carbon fibre ceramic brakes, a roll cage, 4-point safety belts and fire extinguisher. Sweet.

  • Audi reveals A5 DTM car

Audi has revealed its 2012 DTM car ahead of its debut in Frankfurt tomorrow. Based on the facelifted A5 coupé model, the DTM machine is centred around a carbon-fibre monocoque, combined with a steel tube cage, with power coming from a near-identical version of the 340 kW (460 HP) V8 engine curently being used in this season’s A4 car. The transmission, a six-speed pneumatically operated system, is new for 2012.

More than 50 components, including the chassis, are identical for all DTM vehicles, and this has helped to drastically reduce development costs. “Due to these shared components it was possible to achieve the cost reduction target of up to 40 percent without compromising on the safety and attractiveness of the DTM vehicles,” commented Audi’s Wolfgang Ullrich.

Audi decided to change to an A5 base car back in June 2010. By February 11 wind tunnel testing had begun, with the rollout performed on July 29 by Martin Tomczyk, and constant testing since then.

  • Brabus creates electric E-Class

Brabus has created a one-off electric E-Class prototype vehicle. Driven by four hub-mounted motors fed by a 56-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, this 320 kW E-class is no slouch, hitting 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 6.9 seconds, while top speed is 220 km/h (136.70 mph). Impressively, a range of up to 350 km (217 miles) is also possible – in eco mode…

The concept car is equipped with an electro-hydraulic BRABUS brake system which sees a vented disc attached to the rear of the hub motors, each disc is gripped by two internal brake calipers. A combination of electronics and hydraulics create a more versatile brake system. The system uses the electric motor to directly operate the brake cylinders. When the driver steps on the pedal, the necessary force is maintained while the hydraulic pressure of the friction brake is controlled to help maximize energy regeneration.
