  • Opel reveals Zafira Tourer ecoFLEX

Opel will be adding an ecoFLEX model to its Zafira Tourer range, shortly after its launch, this autumn. Powered by a 2.0 CDTI engine, the ecoFLEX emits just 119 g of carbon dioxide every kilometre and drinks 4.5 L/100 km (63 mpg) in the combined cycle.

Producing 96 kW/130 hp and 300 Nm of torque, the 2.0 L turbo diesel unit helps the Zafira to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 11.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 193 km/h (120 mph), which isn’t too bad, but owners are probably more interested in the the fuel savings that this seven-seat monocab provides.

These come about thanks to technology such a slightly lower ride height and active aeroshutter within the radiator grille, helping the Zafira Tourer to become more slippery through the air. Low-rolling-resistance tyres are also fitted. Other contributors include the engine start/stop function, and an illuminated dashboard-mounted gauge that lets the driver know when it’s the perfect time to shift up a gear.

  • Kicherer SLS AMG GT/R

Baden-Württemberg tuning specialist Kicherer has created a GT/R program for the stunning SLS AMG Roadster.

Apart from the Hannibal Lecter-inspired grille, the Roadster also receives a lower front spoiler and replacement wing strakes – all constructed from carbon fibre.

Those monster wheels are Kicherer’s three-piece RS-1 items, sized 10 and 11.5×21-inch. The company also fits its height adjustable suspension kit with lift-up function. This practical feature allows the driver to raise the front of the car – at the touch of a button – to avoid speed bumps and costly sump replacements…

Kicherer also tunes the engine of the SLS AMG; thanks to the optimisation of the engine management, as well as a performance air filter and new stainless steel sports exhaust, output jumps from 571 to 630 PS, while torque increases from 650 to 700 Nm. That translates to a 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) time of 3.5 seconds and a governed top speed of 320 km/h (198 mph).
