  • Mercedes-Benz Citan winter testing

Following on from the initial details and rendering, Mercedes-Benz is now putting the forthcoming Citan through its paces with some winter testing near the Arctic Circle.

Before the new urban delivery van makes its world début at the IAA Commercial Vehicle Show, next September, it must endure sub-zero conditions where equipment such as the ESP can be put to the test on the icy terrain. Fitted as standard, the ESP label covers such functions as the anti-lock braking system, acceleration skid control, drive and braking torque control, understeer control and rolling-moment intervention.

With temperatures dropping as low as -40°C, components such rubber door seals will still be expected to perform their duties, while plastic trim panels need to resist becoming brittle and fracturable.

Powerplants will include the familiar fuel-efficient diesel and petrol engines – including a BlueEFFICIENCY version. An electric drive E-CELL model is also in the pipeline.

  • Mansory Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG

Brand-based German tuning specialist Mansory has released an incredibly unsubtle program for the Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG.

Already developing 410 kW (557 hp) and 800 Nm of torque when specified with the AMG Performance package, Mansory adds a sports air filter and reworks the 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine’s electronics to produce 471 kW (632 hp) and 900 Nm.

Externally, things get a little out of hand. The wide-body package, which is constructed from carbon fibre and features plenty of exposed weave, consists of an aggressive front fascia with LED daytime running lights and splitter, a vented hood, side skirts, a boot lid spoiler, rear bumper with integrated diffuser and arch extensions that add 50 mm to the front and 80 mm to the back of the car. Those tailpipes could never be accused of being demure, while the new 20-inch ultralight forged wheels, wrapped in 265/30ZR and 305/25ZR tyres, help to emphasise the CLS’ increased girth.

Inside, Mansory adds a sports steering wheel, full-leather upholstery, aluminium pedals and carbon fibre trim elements.

  • Richard Hammond drives the BMW M5

From this weekend’s final Top Gear of the season, Richard Hammond gets behind the wheel of BMW’s M5 F10M. Powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.4 V8 unit, which develops 412 kW (560 hp), the M5 hits 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds while its limited 250 km/h (155 mph) top speed climbs to 305 km/h (190 mph) with the M Driver’s Package. Shame there wasn’t a little more M1 content.
