Audi RS Q3 concept surfaces
Audi has released details and images of the much rumoured RS Q3 concept ahead of its world début at Auto China 2012 towards the end of this month.Propelling this matte Ordos Blue SUV is the same turbocharged five-cylinder 2.5 TFSI unit as seen in Audi’s TT RS – developing 265 kW (360 hp). Delivering its power to the quattro all-wheel drive system via a seven-speed S tronic transmission, performance is brisk, with 100 km/h (62 mph) appearing in just in 5.2 seconds and a top speed of 265 km/h (165 mph).
Visually, the face wears that imposing brushed aluminium single-frame radiator grille with honeycomb mesh, slightly tinted headlights and capacious air intakes with smooth funnel-shaped outer sections constructed from CFRP (carbon fibre reinforced polymer). CFRP has also been used to construct the lower front spoiler, mirror casings, sills and slightly wider arch extensions. The rear gets a sportier tailgate spoiler, anthracite tinted lights, large diffuser insert and typical RS twin tailpipes, while the 8.5 x 20-inch alloys provide a more purposeful demeanor, accentuated by the 25 mm drop in ride height.
Moving inside, the cabin is upholstered in black Fine Nappa leather with contrasting blue stitching and Alcantara elements on the seats and door panels. Decorative CFRP panels with blue luminescent glass fibres are fitted to the centre console, dashboard and black Velvet leather-trimmed steering wheel, while, as a nod to the place of its unveiling, the dials’ usual Arabic numerals have made way for Chinese characters.

Puchheim-based performance specialist Tuningwerk has developed an extreme RS program for owners of the epic BMW 1 Series M Coupe with a predilection for circuits.Already producing 246 kW (335 hp) and 450 Nm (332 lb/ft) of torque from its bi-turbo 3.0-litre straight-six, Tuningwerk’s conversion, which includes reworked turbochargers and an uprated intercooler, sees those figures rise to 388 kW (521 hp) and 614 Nm (453 lb/ft). Other upgrades include a modified (or optional racing) clutch, Titanium exhaust system, a rear axle ratio of 3.25 (3.45 optional), a second oil cooler and locking differential with a Drexler-Motorsport lock. Chassis enhancements consist of a KW Clubsport Variant 3 coilover kit and anti-roll bars, a MOV’IT big brake system with either 370 mm steel or 380 mm carbon ceramic discs, while the wheels are forged ATS superlights, sized 9 and 10 x 19-inches and wrapped in Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tyres.
Physically the 1M wears a replacement hood, GT4 front spoiler, rear wing and boot lid – all constructed from carbon fibre – as are the RECARO Pole Position seats. For the hardcore amongst you, Tuningwerk can also fit carbon doors, plastic side windows and a full rollcage.
If you’re interested in purchasing a complete car, be prepared to part with around € 119,000. Personally, we feel that a carbon fibre roof panel wouldn’t have gone a miss here.
