  • Volkswagen Golf GTD revealed

    Volkswagen Golf GTD
    Volkswagen has announced that it will be revealing the GTD version of its seventh generation Golf in Geneva next month.

    The most powerful GTD ever created by Volkswagen, under the hood lies a 2.0-litre four-cylinder TDI unit, developing 135 kW (181 hp) an impressive torque figure of 380 Nm, which is mated to a six-speed manual transmission as standard or optional 6-speed DSG. On the road 100 km/h appears in just 7.5 seconds (manual) with a top speed of 230 km/h. Combined fuel consumption in the manual car works out at 4.2 litres per 100 km with CO2 emissions of 109 g/km, but those numbers rise to 4.7 l/100 km and 119 g/km CO2 with DSG-equipped cars.

    Visually, the GTD wears 17-inch double-five-spoke alloy wheels with 225/45 tyres, lower sport suspension, sill trims, diffuser, large roof spoiler, LED tail-lights and licence plate lights and dual chrome tailpipes.

    Moving to the interior, there’s the obligatory tartan-trimmed sport seats, a black roofliner, sport steering wheel, stainless steel foot pedals, a GTD gearknob, trim strips and instrument cluster. Equipment includes white ambience lighting, Climatronic climate control, ParkPilot and Composition Touch radio system.

    Pricing in Germany starts at €29,350 euros, with orders beginning on the 5th of March and deliveries this June.

    Leonberg-based Porsche tuning specialist TechArt has revealed a new program for the 382 hp (281 kW) Cayenne S Diesel ahead of its official début at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.

    Visually, the aero package consists of a three-piece front apron with intakes feeding air to the brakes and intercooler, a ventilated carbon fibre hood, side skirts, a raised roof spoiler and rear bumper apron with diffuser section. Options include halogen or LED lighting units working as fog and daytime running lights. TechArt can also supply the kit in carbon fibre at extra cost.

    Moving inside, owners can specify anything from a 3-spoke sport steering wheel – complete with flappy paddles, to carbon fibre trim elements, to a completely reupholstered cabin in leather and Alcantara, with 7-inch screens and a refrigerator. It’s your money, burn it how you will.

    TechArt is currently finalising its Power Kit for the Cayenne’s 4.2-litre biturbo V8 engine, but a complete exhaust system culminating in twin oval tailpipes is available, along with a wide range of alloy wheels ranging from 20 to 23-inches in diameter.

  • Chris Harris drives the Porsche Cayman S

    Hot off the press, here’s the new DRIVE video, which sees Chris Harris behind the wheel of Porsche’s dexterous new Cayman S model.

    Powering the S is that 3.4-litre flat-six engine developing a healthy 239 kW (325 hp) and 370 Nm of torque; enough for a 5.0 second sprint to 100 km/h (PDK 4.9 s) and a 283 km/h top speed. Porsche’s optional Sport Chrono package shaves a further 0.2s from the 0-100 km/h time.

    This new video from Auto Express sees the magazine’s Owen Mildenhall heading to Blyton Park Circuit, armed with the recently facelifted Audi R8 Coupe and Porsche’s new 911 Carrera 4S.

    Powered by the company’s 4.2 FSI V8, which produces 316 kW (430 hp) and 430 Nm of torque, the S tronic-equipped Coupe hits 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 300 km/h, while the 991 Carrera 4S is propelled by a 3.8-litre straight-six developing 294 kW (400 hp) and 440 Nm, allowing it to crack 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds before running out of steam at 297 km/h with PDK.

  • Audi RS Q3 officially revealed

    Following on from yesterday’s leaked images, Audi has revealed the RS Q3 ahead of its word début in Geneva next month.

    Visually, the RS Q3 wears colour-matched side trim and wheel arch extensions, an imposing brushed aluminium single-frame radiator grille with honeycomb mesh and matte aluminium accents around the front air intakes and mirror casings. The rear gets a sportier tailgate spoiler, large diffuser insert and elliptical RS twin tailpipes, while the 19 or optional 20-inch alloys provide a more purposeful demeanour, accentuated by a 25 mm drop in ride height.

    Moving inside, the embossed seats are upholstered in a combination of black leather and Alcantara, while the multi-function steering wheel is trimmed in grey. Piano finish black inlays, a black roof lining, aluminium foot rest and pedals and an RS-specific MMI and driver information system with lap time come as standard, with items on the options list including carbon fibre or aluminium inlays, a lunar silver headlining and seats finished in Fine Nappa leather in black or lunar silver with diamond stitching.

    Propulsion for the 1,730 kg RS Q3 come via Audi’s turbocharged five-cylinder 2.5 TFSI unit – developing 228 kW (310 hp) and 420 Nm of torque. Delivering its power to the quattro all-wheel drive system via a seven-speed S tronic transmission, 100 km/h (62 mph) appears in just in 5.5 seconds, with top speed limited to 250 km/h. The auto start/stop system contributes to an average consumption of 8.8 litres of fuel per 100 km and CO2 emissions of 206 grams per km.

    Deliveries begin this Autumn, with pricing in Germany starting at €54,600. Who’d have thought that, albeit it a little more expensive, Audi would build a diesel-powered Q5 that would outperform (and drink less than) its flagship RS model.

    If you missed this week’s Fifth Gear here’s the evergreen Tiff Needell, who visited a local circuit to see how the new Porsche 911 Cabriolet fares against Audi’s R8 Spyder.

    The models being thrashed are the Carrera S, which develops 294 kW (400 hp) and 440 Nm of torque from its 3.8-litre straight-six and the 4.2-litre V8-engined R8, with 316 kW (430 hp) and 430 Nm at its disposal.
