  • Audi Q1 confirmed

    1_q1-tsr
Audi has confirmed that it will begin producing the forthcoming Q1 compact SUV at its Ingolstadt factory from 2016.

No details of the vehicle were released, but the accompanying rendering shows a steroidal A1-type body with blistered arches and rugged all-terrain look. Essentially a Volkswagen CrossPolo in an expensive suit, the Q1 is expected to use such engines as an entry-level 63 kW (86 hp) 1.2 TFSI, 90 kW (122 hp) 1.4 TFSI and 77 kW (105 hp) 1.6 TDI. We wouldn’t be surprised to see a range-topping SQ1 variant with a 2.0 TFSI unit sending 188 kW (256 hp) to all four wheels.

“The Audi Q1 is part of our broad-based SUV strategy. It is designed on the basis of the modular transverse engine concept and will round off our Q series at the bottom end,” said Audi Chairman Rupert Stadler.
