New Volkswagen Beetle stars in Travemünde

Volkswagen fans from around the world, some as far as China, descended on the Baltic Sea beach of Travemünde at the weekend to experience the seventh Beetle Sunshine Tour.

Apart from a roller coaster and three live bands there to entertain the crowds, this year’s theme was “Tour of the generations” which saw early air-cooled models sitting alongside their modern-day, water-pumping siblings. Guest star was, of course, the new 21st Century Beetle.

When the original was launched in 1938, it was known simply as ‘the Volkswagen’, but quickly acquired a raft of affectionate nicknames from across the world. Whatever you call it, its popularity has never been in question, with 21.5 million sold in the past 73 years. Long may it live on.

Audi Q5 by Senner Tuning

It seems that there’s no stopping Benno Senner, president of Senner Tuning AG, and his team in Ingelheim when it comes to tweaking Audi models. This time they’ve reworked the Q5 SUV.

Senner focused on the 2.0L TDI model, adding a sports air filter and reworking the engine management system increasing output from 170 hp to 213 hp. The braking system is also upgraded thanks to six-piston Brembo calipers gripping 380 mm discs. A new sports exhaust also helps matters, as does the fitment of a power converter which removes the delay associated with fly-by-wire accelerator systems.

Externally, Senner has kept things relatively subtle with a little colour-coding and a black radiator grille from NSW. The wheels are 10×22 inch Corniche Monza items in a Diamond Black finish.

The interior is finished in two-tone leather, with items such as the speedometer, screen frame and arm pad all receiving a coating of hide with contrasting orange stitching. The centre console gets a carbon trim piece, while the new floor mats bear the Senner logo.

Auto Bild: Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupé Vs BMW M3

Wolfgang König sees if the new Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupé has what is takes to tempt BMW drivers out of their M3s for Germany’s Auto Bild. Both cars are powered by naturally aspirated V8 engines and both are limited to 155 mph, but with an official 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds the C 63 AMG is slightly faster than the M3 (4.8 s). That’s not such a massive gap – when you realise that its engine is 2.3L larger… READ MORE »
