  • VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GTI CABRIOLET CONCEPT SURFACES

As well as revealing its Golf R Cabriolet concept at the 2011 Wörthersee Treffen, Volkswagen has just unveiled this, the Golf GTI Cabriolet concept. As you’d expect, the cabriolet is powered by the same 210 PS 2.0 TSI engine, as seen in the tin-topped GTI, with similar performance: a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) time of around 7 seconds and a top speed approaching 240 km/h (148 mph). We’re loving the ‘Firespark Metallic’ Red paintwork, and feel it really works with that aggressive splitter, and those arch and sill extensions. The slammed ride-height is achieved thanks to the addition of coilover suspension.

Respected VW tuning specialists APR and Volkswagen Coaching GmbH have combined forces to create the Golf GTI Reifnitz, a special one-off model celebrating both the iconic GTI’s 35th birthday and 30 years of Worthersee. Volkswagen applied the special paintwork, aero package, and added the new interior, which is a blend of motorsport and monster sound system. APR did its bit in the power department, adding a Stage III Turbocharger and exhaust, which resulted in a pleasant figure of 370 PS from the 2.0 TSI unit.

  • Volkswagen unveils Golf R Cabriolet Concept

As well as debuting its new, celebratory Golf GTI Edition 35 model, another special from Volkswagen has surfaced at this year’s Wörthersee event. The stunning Golf R cabriolet concept packs a 270 PS punch, a 250 km/h top speed, and sub-six second 0-100 km/h time, making it the fastest Golf cabriolet ever created. We can’t envisage the Wolfsburg company having much trouble selling these – if they make it to production…

  • SKODA REVEALS FABIA RS 2000 CONCEPT AT WÖRTHERSEE

In keeping with other brands in the Volkswagen Group, Skoda has brought something to the 30th Wörtherseetour 2011 party in Austria. Perhaps not as head-spinning as Audi’s 503 HP A1 clubsport quattro, but still making an impact, the Fabia RS 2000 Roadster concept looks better than it sounds, but don’t hold your breath if you’re expecting to see one in your local dealerships anytime soon. Motorsport fans will get a chance to drool over the company’s Fabia Super 2000 IRC car.

  • AUTOCAR DRIVES THE MERCEDES-BENZ C 63 AMG COUPE

Autocar’s Jamie Corstorphine sets out to determine whether the meaty 457 hp Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupe has what it takes to lure Audi RS 5 and BMW M3 drivers over to this new kid on the block. A 4.5 second 0-100km/h time and the sound of that glorious V8 powerplant is a good start… (more…)
