  • 217 mph Brabus 800 Coupe

Bottrop-based Mercedes-Benz tuning giant, Brabus, has revealed the 800 Coupe ahead of its official début at the Dubai International Motor Show.

Based on the comparatively-humble CL 600 model, Brabus reworks the cylinder heads and bores out the original 5.5 L V12 engine block, before fitting a longer-stroke crank and larger forged pistons, taking displacement to 6.3 L. A pair of upgraded turbochargers are mounted to the new manifolds, while used gases escape through a high-performance stainless steel exhaust, fitted with high-flow cats.

Four water-to-air intercoolers help to keep the charge air to a minimum, resulting in a titanic 588 kW (800 hp) and 1,420 Nm (1,047 lb-ft) of torque. With all that power transferred to the road via a reinforced five-speed automatic transmission, the 800 Coupe thunders to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds and takes just 10.3 seconds to reach 200 km/h (124 mph). Top speed is limited to 350 km/h (217 mph).

Visually, the CL is fitted with an aero kit, which consists of a lower front spoiler, boot lid spoiler and replacement rear diffuser insert, which accommodates the new quad tailpipes.

The CL’s ABC (Active Body Control) active suspension system is fitted with a lowering module, which helps to achieve a 25 mm drop in ride height, while stopping power is greatly improved thanks to a pair of 405 x 34 mm front discs, gripped by six-piston calipers and 380 x 34 mm rears accompanied by four piston calipers. They hide behind 21-inch alloy wheels, available in Monoblock VI, E or F styles.

Inside the cabin, Brabus continues with the high quality upgrades, which sees the upholstery finished in black Alcantara and white leather with diamond-pattern stitching. Elsewhere, there is a new steering wheel, matte carbon fibre trim elements, aluminium pedals and shifter, and sill plates – backlit with the Brabus logo.

Brabus can offer customers a fully finished 800 Coupe, or convert your very own CL 600 model.

  • SEAT announces electric and plug-in hybrid prototypes

As part of its commitment alternative technologies, SEAT has unveiled two prototype vehicles that offer a vision of the future for the Spanish auto manufacturer. Both the Altea XL Electric Ecomotive and Leon TwinDrive Ecomotive will be integrated within the vehicle fleets of governmental institutions in Catalonia and Madrid.

Firstly, the Altea XL Electric Ecomotive offers emission-free motoring in a vehicle that can accommodate the whole family. Producing 85kW (115 hp) of electrical power and an impressive 270Nm (199 lb-ft) of torque, the Altea XL is capable of covering a range of 135 kilometres (84 miles), while top speed is 135 km/h (84 mph).

SEAT’s prototype plug-in hybrid vehicle, the Leon TwinDrive Ecomotive, combines the traditional combustion engine with electric power. Running solely in electric mode, the Leon can reach a top speed of 120 km/h (74 mph) and cover a distance of range of 52 kilometres (32 miles). In combined mode, top speed rises to 170 km/h (105 mph), while consumption is a ridiculously low 1.7 litres of fuel every 100 kilometres (166 UK mpg).

“Customers demand a more sustainable form of mobility, but their needs are diverse. Therefore, we believe that a parallel strategy of developing two different technologies will put SEAT in the best position to meet their needs,” said SEAT President, James Muir.
