MILLVILLE, N.J. – Shane Williams from the ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup in Germany will be the first guest driver of the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup Race series. He will be driving in both races of the double header weekend in New Jersey Sept. 26 through Sept. 28. Williams, 21, from Capetown, South Africa, was the mid-season points leader in the Volkswagen Polo Cup.

Volkswagen has revealed the fourth model in its commercial vehicle line-up with the debut at the IAA in Hanover this week of an all-new Volkswagen Pickup concept. Aiming to set new standards in the one-tonne pickup class, the new model will go into production at the end of 2009. It will be built at Volkswagen’s ‘Pacheco’ plant in Argentina and introduced initially to markets in Europe, South America, South Africa and Australia.

Forty years have passed since Volkswagen presented the VW 411, at that time the company’s largest and most powerful model yet, to some 200 journalists in Wolfsburg. The journalists had earlier put the VW 411 through its paces on the new Volkswagen proving ground in Ehra-Lessien, testing the vehicle’s equipment and performance. Volkswagen built 367,728 units until production ceased in July 1974, and 416 of these are currently registered as old-timers.

Pot-bellied Yorkshireman and Top Gear’s figurehead of fun; Mr Clarkson has been driving Volkswagen’s lardy Scirocco for The Sunday Times. He reminisces about owning a Mk1 GLI model during the early eighties and compares the original with Volkswagen’s current offering.

“More important than the speed, though, is the way it looks, and I’m not sure. The original Scirocco was designed by Giugiaro, who is a modern-day Leonardo da Vinci. This new one was done in house, and from some angles it’s what Michael Winner would call historic. But from others it’s a bit wet. And you should definitely be aware that in white it looks like a Stormtrooper’s helmet.”

HERNDON, Va., Sept. 19, 2008 - Volkswagen of America, Inc. today announced that buyers of the Jetta TDI sedan and SportWagen are eligible for a $1,300 Federal Income Tax Credit. The Internal Revenue Service has issued a certification letter affirming that the vehicles qualify for the Advanced Lean Burn Technology Motor Vehicle income tax credit.

Stuttgart. Porsche Automobil Holding SE, Stuttgart, acquired a further 4.89 per cent of the Volkswagen ordinary shares on Tuesday, 16 September. As a result, the total stake in the Wolfsburg-based car manufacturer now amounts to 35.14 per cent of the voting rights. This step ensures that Porsche has a lasting majority at the VW annual general meeting.
