WOLFSBURG - July 23, 2008: The Volkswagen Group again significantly improved its operating profit in the first six months of the current fiscal year. At €3.4 billion, the Group’s operating profit exceeded the prior-year figure by 21.8 percent. Europe’s largest automobile manufacturer even recorded 31.3 percent growth in profit after tax to €2.6 billion.

WOLFSBURG – July 21, 2008: The Volkswagen Group delivered 3.27 million vehicles worldwide (+5.8 percent) from January to June 2008, the highest figure ever for the first six months of a year. Group worldwide deliveries in June also reached a new record: compared with the same period last year, the number of vehicles delivered rose by 2.4 percent to 573,000.

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. announced today that it will build a U.S. automotive production facility in Chattanooga, Tenn., where it will produce a car designed specifically for the North American consumer and invest $1 billion in the economy. The announcement is an important element of the company’s overall U.S. strategy of connecting with its customers, increasing its competitiveness and tripling its U.S. customer base in the next decade.

LONDON - July 12, 2008: Helen Simpson and Michael Broadwith set off from England in their Volkswagen Transporter campervan, from the specialist converter Bilbo’s, and travelled through more than 30 countries, including Ukraine, Russia, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, Kazakhstan, China and Pakistan.

WOLFSBURG – July 11, 2008: The Volkswagen Group is orienting its information technology (IT) worldwide to the needs of the company’s growth strategy. Some 70 IT managers from all Group sites met in Dresden to discuss this issue. Klaus Hardy Mühleck, the Group’s CIO, summarized the results in Wolfsburg today: “We are strengthening our in-house IT. We will be giving our IT teams an even stronger international focus and intensifying the consistent use of standards.”

Volkswagen has launched a new website to give us an idea of the types of cars that will be on our streets in 2028. The core of the site is an interactive short film giving the viewers an informative and entertaining glimpse of the future. VW research developers and designers describe the three main concepts on show: the “one”, “ego” and “room”. This is the sporty two-seater ‘ego’. Press release below.

WOLFSBURG, Germany - The penultimate stop in the Touareg Stanley’s international exhibition tour is The Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose, California. The prototype will be on display there from 20 June to 18 July 2008. It was here in the Silicon Valley region near San Francisco that the Stanley project was originally born.

Volkswagen of America, Inc. today announced June 2008 sales of 23,208 units, a 0.3 percent increase over the June 2007 sales of 23,137 vehicles. On a year-to-date basis, 2008 Volkswagen sales remain 0.6 percent ahead of 2007 sales through June.

Volkswagen has won the international competition “Golden Drop of Oil 2008″ for its innovative engine-gearbox combination, the powerful 90 kW TSI engine and the new 7-speed DSG gearbox. The energy and environment prize is awarded annually by the German automobile club “Kraftfahrer-Schutz e. V. (KS)”. The club awards this prize for technical developments in passenger cars which make a significant contribution towards reducing fuel consumption and safeguarding the environment.
