In both its 5-door and SC version, the SEAT Ibiza is still racking up distinctions. This time, the popular Spanish model has been singled out as the most secure in the ‘City Car/Supermini’ category with the prestigious British Insurance Vehicle Security (BIVS) Award, presented by Thatcham, the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre located in the county of Berkshire, England.

The WTCC races being held next 5 July on Oporto’s urban track will be memorable for two reasons. On one hand they mark the championship’s 100th race, and on the other, they signal the half-way point of this season with the SEAT Sport team currently leading both the drivers’ and manufacturers’ classification.

The SEAT Ibiza was the recipient of the prestigious Red Dot Award in Essen yesterday in the Product Design 2009 category. This prize is a tribute to the quality, precision and innovative design of the Spanish car’s 5-door and SC versions. The 5 door version of the Ibiza received the highest distinction, the “Best of the Best” award for its high quality design, while the SC took the “Red Dot” award for outstanding quality.

SEAT has turned the Leon a bit sportier by giving it a new facelift. Modest design adjustments give the brawny Spaniard a more dynamic appearance. JE DESIGN follows this line and turns the modified model into a thoroughbred sports car. At the same time as the new Leon is introduced to the market, the refiner also offers his entire Leon facelift programme.

Today SEAT held the foundation stone laying ceremony for the new bodywork workshop at the Martorell plant for assembly of the new Audi Q3 from 2011 onwards. The shed, ready to house the production facilities in February 2010, will be equipped with almost 300 robots, making it one of the most modern workshop of its kind in the world.

Despite the enormous difference, neither Tiago Monteiro nor his team are the least bit worried. SEAT Sport’s Portuguese driver and the Oreca team compete all year at the WTCC as part of the SEAT structure in typical sheer speed races such as at the World Championship, which last on average 24 to 25 minutes. This weekend however, the driver and his team will have to come to terms with switching from sprinting to enduring at a mythical race such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Today the rail service for spare parts shipment between SEAT facilities at Martorell and the Zona Franca started up. The shipment capacity of approximately one million cubic metres of spare parts per year means that some 32,000 trips by heavy vehicles will be taken off the metropolitan road network.
