A green car for the Green Hell, Gumpert will be entering an electric-petrol hybrid race car into the next 24 Hours Nürburgring this May. The race car is based on the Gumpert Apollo and will be piloted by ex-Formula 1 driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Dirk Muller.

Organisers of the Dakar Rally, Amaury Sports Organization, say they hope to bring the event back to Africa by 2012, if security can be guaranteed.

“We’re totally dependent on the geopolitical situation, I don’t know if it will be permissible for us to return by 2011 or 2012,” said Patrice Clerc.
This year’s race was cancelled just 24 hours before the start due to security concerns. Militants linked to Al-Qaida murdered a family of French tourists in Mauritania (where eight of the fifteen stages were to be staged).

KTM Sportcar GmbH is pleased to announce the entry of two of its stunning Audi-engined X-Bow track cars in this year’s FIA GT4 European Cup. Competing in the newly-created ‘Sport Lights’ class, the cars will be prepared and raced by German-based motor racing specialists Reiter Engineering, which has operated successful Lamborghini racing teams in the FIA GT1, GT2 and GT3.

With demand for its dual-clutch transmission modules (known as DualTronic®) expected to increase 500% by 2013, BorgWarner (NYSE: BWA) has opened its second manufacturing facility at its Drivetrain campus in Arnstadt, Germany. The new facility will double the manufacturing area of the current site to over 107,000 square feet (10,000 square meters) and create 150 jobs by 2010. In addition, a new vehicle lab and test track with tight curves, steeply graded hills and sharp exits has been constructed for on-site evaluation of series- production technologies.

The Bosch Group is acquiring the operating assets of Accu Industries Inc. in Ashland, Virginia. An agreement to this effect was signed on March 12, 2008. It has been agreed that the purchase price will not be disclosed. The acquisition is expected to close before the end of April 2008.

Legendary BBC motoring show, Top Gear is to be turned into a live event for a world tour visiting fifteen countries with the show’s regular presenters expected to sign up for the British leg of the tour.

Managing director of Top Gear, BBC Worldwide, Adam Waddell said: “Taking Top Gear Live on tour is tremendously exciting and ties in perfectly with our plans to reach out to audiences around the globe.”
The show will visit London’s Earls Court and the Birmingham NEC later this year. A spokesman for the BBC said he did not know which other countries the tour would visit.

Spyker Cars, manufacturer of Audi-engined premium sport cars, unveiled its second generation C-line sports car at the Salon International de l’Auto in Geneva, Switzerland today: The all aluminium Long Wheel Base model is called Spyker C8 Aileron and will come with both a manual as well as an automatic gearbox.
