Since production began in 2001 Plant Oxford has seen over one million MINIs leave the plant destined for customers abroad. The one millionth MINI for export has now left Plant Oxford.

Motorsport is the single greatest influence in the development of the MINI John Cooper Works. In fact, the four-cylinder, common rail direct injection unit found in the standard MINI Cooper S has received the same modifications as the MINI CHALLENGE car, which is a model only licensed for track use.

MINI USA today announced that Jim McDowell, Vice President of MINI USA, will address reporters in the Detroit, MI area on July 22, 2008 regarding rising gas prices in the United States and its impact on the small car marketplace. MINI has consistently established itself as a leader in the premium small car segment.

MUNICH – July 11, 2008: Over the next months, the BMW Group will be carrying out various series of tests on electrically powered vehicles to determine the alternative drive of the future. Several hundred MINI brand vehicles are being prepared for this. The cars, built in the Oxford plant, will be modified accordingly in Munich and fitted out for trials.

The BMW Group and Fiat Group Automobiles (FGA) are considering the possibility of co-operation in the areas of architectures and components for their MINI and Alfa Romeo vehicles. A Memorandum of Understanding to this effect was signed by Friedrich Eichiner, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Corporate and Brand Development, and Alfredo Altavilla, Senior Vice President, Business Development, Fiat Group Automobiles and CEO of Fiat Powertrain Technologies.

A MINI Clubman designed inside and out as a pleasure palace by British avant-garde lingerie maker Agent Provocateur for the annual Life Ball charity in Vienna, Austria, has been sold on eBay for $73,388 (e45,000).

The search for a fast and agile getaway car for the latest edition of Robert Ludlum’s The Bourne Conspiracy video game led to the MINI Cooper S being featured in the game’s adrenaline-pumping driving sequences. Developed by High Moon Studios for Sierra Entertainment, a global division of Vivendi Games, the highly anticipated video game for Microsoft’s Xbox(R) 360 and Sony Playstation(R) 3 made its U.S. debut earlier this month and will be distributed in Europe later this year.

While watching some old Top Gears yesterday, this pair of commercials came on, and made us laugh. From the ‘Ban Boredom’ campaign, the first shows a guy watching a tedious cookery show, before a MINI crashes through his living room wall. The second features vikings driving MINIs towards a bunch of bikini-wearing girls. Next time you’re sunning yourself on the beach, look out for any stray Coopers. It’d really spoil your holiday if one of your family was crushed to death. That’d be a tragedy…

MINI, which established the premium small car segment and has nearly doubled its sales over the last six years since its launch in the U.S., is now the subject of unprecedented consumer interest as Americans look to smaller, more fuel efficient rides to help ease the pain at the gas pump.

Munich/Vienna: Videos whirred and cameras clicked when Joseph Corre drove the Life Ball MINI 2008 over the red carpet outside Vienna’s City Hall in front of 40,000 spectators. Escorted by four models in “British policemen’s uniforms”, and with Sophie Ellis Bextor in the passenger seat, the arrival of the Life Ball MINI 2008 marked the start of the fantastic opening show.
