SEAT’S TEMPORARY LFAP GIVEN GO-AHEAD BY CATALAN GOVERNMENT

The Catalan government’s Department of Labour (Departament de Treball de la Generalitat de Catalunya) gave the go-ahead this morning to SEAT’s request for a temporary Labour Force Adjustment Plan.

The temporary LFAP was presented by SEAT 19th November last, with the backing of the major trade unions during the consultation period, as a response to the down-turn affecting production in the automotive sector. It will involve 7,484 employees at the Martorell and Zona Franca (Barcelona) plants, and will be implemented between January 4th and December 23rd 2010.

This agreement minimizes the impact of the effects of the LFAP on employees as well as improving the social plan of the previous Plan with two new measures. The first sets up a procedure regulating those cases of coincidence of remunerated licences while being affected by the LFAP; the second enhances the watchdog committee operational remit concerning affected employees.
