PORSCHE CARS NORTH AMERICA OPENS NORTHEAST REGIONAL SUPPORT CENTER

ATLANTA, Oct. 29, 2009; Porsche, in a move to further improve customer service by increasing operating efficiency across the company’s entire infrastructure in the east, Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA) is officially opening doors to a newly constructed Northeast Regional Support Center in Easton, Pennsylvania today.

Because of how the new structure was built and how it now operates so efficiently, it has received the area’s first-ever LEED Gold Certificate for environmental sensitivity.

“I am very proud that Porsche and its builders took the extra steps to help protect the environment,” said Detlev von Platen, President and CEO, Porsche Cars North America. “This certificate recognizes small things–such as the use of recycled building material, super efficient lighting and planning for ideal water runoff–that add up to an important result: helping preserve our world’s resources.”

The new center is centrally located in the northeast–less than 100 miles from major Porsche markets in New York City, Philadelphia, Newark and other cities–and is also strategically located near major highways to help facilitate the company’s distribution of parts to dealers.

“From a geographic standpoint, the center is located right in the middle of one our most important sales regions and provides easy access to all major highways,” said von Platen. “This is essential from a logistics perspective: the time it takes to get parts to our dealers will be dramatically improved by use of a dedicated Porsche trucking system that will deliver parts to our dealers overnight and in some cases on the same day. Ultimately, this allows us to serve our customers faster and better.”

The 130,000-square-foot facility, with room to grow by an additional 25,000 square feet, will be much more than a parts distribution center.

The support center will also be one of the company’s largest service training facilities, with several specially built technical classrooms. Porsche said it expects to train at least 600 service technicians each year at the facility.

When fully operational, the center will employ 27 full-time workers, some of whom were hired from the area. In addition, plans are in the works for PCNA’s Area East sales office to move into the facility, which will add five more employees to the facility.

According to Rob Nemchik, general manager Porsche Logistics Service, LLC, the new center will serve 13 states, parts of Canada and 83 of Porsche’s 201 dealerships in the United States.

“Porsche will realize the positive synergies of combining three departments in one location, which is something we have already successfully established in our support center in Ontario, Calif. with a lot of success,” he said.
