BMW MECHANIC INJURED IN KERS TEST

JEREZ, Spain - A BMW Sauber mechanic suffered injuries after receiving an electric shock while testing a new hybrid engine system. The were running an F1.07C equipped with the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) in an official test for the first time.

“During testing of the KERS car at the Jerez track this morning, there was an incident involving a mechanic,” a BMW Sauber spokesman explained. “When the car returned to the pits, he touched it and suffered an electric shock. He sustained slight injuries to his left hand and grazing on his left arm.”

As the team is investigating the incident, the car did not run in the afternoon but the team will return to testing today with Christian Klien using the BMW Sauber F1.08 car for further development tests for the remainder of this season.
