CLARKSON DRIVES THE PORSCHE 997 GT2

Pot-bellied Yorkshireman Jezza Clarkson has had his hands on the ferocious Porsche 997 GT2. The 530bhp beast hits 60mph in just 3.7s before going on to a 204mph top speed, but that’s not enough to impress the man from the BBC…

“Think of it as a carbon fibre fishing rod. It will make you look serious and keen among your peers. But one day, you’re going to snag it on an overhead power line. And as you lie in hospital afterwards, with no face and melted feet, you’re going to wish you’d stuck with a bamboo cane and a piece of string.”

I always take what Jeremy says with a pinch of salt and i think that people’s objectivity is what ensures that others do not take Jeremy’s comments too seriously. If they did no one would buy Cayenne’s or 911s! I was recently one of the lucky ones allowed to test drive the 997 GT 2 on both road and at Millbrook. It is a truly extraordinary vehicle and in the hands of an average driver simply does not portray the inconsistencies described by Jeremy. i was hugely impressed with it’s poise and general road manners. The obvious (roadholding, speed etc ) were in a league of it’s own. What impressed me was the on road ability and civility of the car. Jeremy may hate 911′ but a sense of objectivity would better serve his style. To think that Porsche have been able to raise the bar in terms of the the car;s CO2 and fuel consumption and yet produce a vehicle of such quality that can out run anything this side of a Veyron on a typical road or any track is something which should not be dismissed in the way Jeremy attempted to. I could go on but ….what’s the point!

I agree what Jeremy says has to be taken as tongue in cheek but he is what makes the show great because he is not afraid of what the automakers think and is not afraid of telling (his opinion)and that is refreshing in(my opinion) but I do agree with you on the Porsche front they have allways been my favorite everyday supercars
