Proof – if ever it were needed – that the much rumored Gullwing-doored Mercedes-Benz will be making a welcome return. It’s believed that the SLC Gullwing model will be powered by an enormous 6.3L biturbo V8 powerplant, with at least 600 bhp being delivered through a seven speed double clutch transmission.

Apparently, these photos of what appears to be a prototype high performance Allroad model, have turned up on a public forum. Posted by an Audi fan following a recent visit to the company’s factory; the mysterious model wore an RS6 face, and a 3.2 badge on the rear, along with regular A6 dual pipes. Those meaty 20-inch rims are wrapped in 275/45 rubber.

MILTON KEYNES – July 30, 2008: The power base at Audi is changing yet again as a 180PS version of the all-new 2.0-litre TFSI unit takes over from the 1.8 TFSI in the A5 coupé – the latest step in an exhaustive engine development programme bringing average CO2 reductions of as much as 10 per cent for core Audi models within the past 12 months. The A5 2.0 TFSI (180PS) is priced from £26,710 OTR and will reach its first UK customers in October.

CENTREVILLE, Va., July 30 — Carfax today announced that it will be the preferred provider of vehicle history information for the BMW Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program. Starting August 1, all certified BMW centers will be required to run a Carfax Vehicle History Report as part of the extensive certification process. Anyone interested in purchasing a certified BMW vehicle receives the full Carfax Report for free.

JE DESIGN, previously well known for its modifications of models from the VW Group, is now including another brand in its tuning range. THE sports car brand of all time: Porsche. Thanks to its experience with upmarket SUVs such as the VW Touareg and the Audi Q7, it was an easy step for JE DESIGN to provide the Porsche Cayenne with a new outfit and give it a more original appearance.

Stuttgart – The new generation of the Mercedes-Benz Travego takes front stage with a world premiere: for the first time the multiple-award-winning Active Brake Assist is being used in a coach. Known as an emergency-braking assistance system, when the risk of crashing into the rear of a slower vehicle ahead is acute, after giving graduated warnings this active safety system automatically brings about emergency braking if the driver shows no reaction.

A trio of latest generation 2.0-litre TDI engines characterised by frugality and refinement is now available for the Audi A4 following the recent introduction of a third, 170PS version of the highly regarded common rail piezo-injected four-cylinder unit. The new A4 2.0 TDI 170PS slots in to the Saloon and Avant ranges above the recently introduced 120PS and 143PS versions and is available in front-wheel-drive and quattro all-wheel-drive forms priced from £24,600 OTR.

Volkswagen has unveiled an “Individual” options package for its Golf Variant model. As well as lower sports suspension and a choice of new alloy wheels, the special model also has an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, a leather steering wheel, drawers under the front seats and heated front seats.
