Following on from the rumours of a ‘charged V6 powerplant for the forthcoming Audi S4 and A6 models, Autocar is claiming to have unearthed more details on the unit.

Force-fed by an Eaton supercharger 3.0L, the direct-injection V6 will produce 286bhp and 310lb ft torque, and wear the name 3.0-litre TFSI – even though the ‘T’ traditionally stands for ‘turbo’. Intake charge temperature will be kept to a minimum thanks to an air-to-air intercooler.
Audi is said to be considering using a supercharged V6 in its Q7 and A8 models. As well as making for a much simpler set-up than twin-turbochargers; a supercharged unit would provide a wealth of low-down power delivery.
