NEXT BMW M5 TO GET 550BHP

According to Autocar, BMW will be going all-out to hammer AMG in the power wars when creating the next generation of M5. The Bavarian giant will apparently be retaining the current V10 unit – but taking it out to 5.5L before adding direct-injection and a couple of turbochargers.

The monster saloon will fall in line as far as emission regulations, while the pair of blowers should help to yield 550bhp. Transmission will come in the form of either the six-speed manual gearbox or the new seven-speed M DCT double-clutch system.
‘Start-stop’ engine technology will be used, along with the Efficient Dynamics system that uses regenerative braking system to reduce load on the alternator. The system (named Brake Energy Regeneration by BMW) works by harnessing energy lost through braking. Thanks to an intelligent alternator, that energy is used to re-charge the car’s battery, thus lowering emissions and improving fuel efficiency.
The monster should be with us by 2010.
