AUTOCAR DRIVES THE ALPINA B3 CONVERTIBLE

The guys over at Autocar have had their hands on Alpina’s B3 Convertible. The car is only the third turbocharged model to roll out of the Alpina factory.

The difference between this and the previous two models (the B7 turbo Coupé and the B10 Biturbo), is that the B3 Biturbo came from Bavaria already equipped with a pair of turbos. The car in question, is BMW’s awesome 335i. Thanks to some tweaking of the car’s engine management, output is now 360 bhp. This is enough to carry the B3 Biturbo to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds and on to a 177 mph top speed.
“The aspect that best defines the way the B3 drives is the near-perfect amalgam of powerful, torquey performance with such smooth, decisive gearchanges from the quite brilliant six-speed automatic gearbox. And that’s something you won’t get from a BMW M3 cabrio, not until BMW introduces its own version of the twin-clutch gearbox, at least.”
